This may be our new summer time go to activity. It’s simple, cheap, and my kiddos love it! Making our own sidewalk chalk paint only takes a few ingredients, that you probably have laying around your house!
What you’ll need:
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- Food coloring
- Muffin tin
- Paint brushes
- A whisk/ spoon to stir
Find a little helper, and let’s get to creating. My son LOVES helping, so he jumped right in.
First, we mixed together the water and cornstarch. Have your kiddo stir until the cornstarch dissolves. (I did have to help him get some of the cornstarch off the bottom of the cup.) Once everything is mixed together, set that aside and put a few drops (3-5) of food coloring in each muffin tin.
Now it’s time to fill the tins. As you divide the paint mixture into the muffin tin you will see the colors appear. This was pretty neat, and like a little magic trick right in front of our eyes.
Since the entire activity only cost about .50 cents, I don’t have to stress about them ruining expensive paint when the inevitable color mixing occurs (Grayson’s favorite thing to do).
Grayson stayed outside painting for over an hour. This is a huge win for both of us! He really did have a blast! The paint did stain his hands a bit, but washed off his clothes with just soap and water. A little blue on his hands, was worth the hour of fun!
If you have any fun and easy summer activities we would love to hear about them!
Happy painting!
